Twelve Days of Christmas..

From http://www.holytrinitygerman.org/xmascustoms.html#twelvedays:  "The twelve nights of Christmas were primarily a time of rest from unnecessary labor and joyful prayer. On each of these nights the Christmas tree lights and the Christmas candle would be lit, while the family would gather around the manger to recite prayers and sing carols and hymns. Similar services are held in some churches during these nights as well."

Why not take this time to formulate or revise your career management or job search plan? Take a breath and a break!  Enjoy your friends and family and recharge your batteries.  In the coming days between Christmas and the Epiphany, I will share a thought, principle or quote that I would encourage you to consider during this time of reflection.

I hope you and yours find this a time of health, heart, and healing.... Happy Holidays!

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth

Every body stops
and stares at me
These two teeth are
gone as you can see
I don't know just who
to blame for this catastrophe!
But my one wish on Christmas Eve
is as plain as it can be!

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth!

Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could be with you
"Merry Christmas."
It seems so long since I could say,
"Sister Susie sitting on a thistle!"

Gosh oh gee, how happy I'd be,
if I could only whistle (thhhh)

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth.
Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could wish you
"Merry Christmas!"

KWANZAA UNITY AND JOB SEARCH

Picture from: http://www.wackybuttons.com/buttonstore/Holidays/Kwanzaa.php

Unity.   Encarta dictionary defines unity as singleness or constancy among individuals or groups.

If you are looking for work you may feel more alone than unified! But, it is very important to go out of your way to connect with others during difficult times.

Chances are you have friends and/or family thatcare about you and even worry about you.  Take the time and effort (it definitely takes effort) to reach out to and connect with them!

9 REASONS TO BE THANKFUL NOT THANKLESS

Photo from: http://www.morguefile.com/creative/DarrenHester
My Facebook friends have been posting things they are thankful for this month. The posts have ranged from being thankful for four-legged "kids" to  a loved one surviving an unexpected, necessary surgery.  I caught on to what they were doing a little late in the game.
But, it made me stop to think about it enough to suggest this be something you commit to being thankful on a daily basis year around....NOT just at Thanksgiving!

Job Search for the Rest of Us!: Thursday Thought November 1, 2012

A NEW DAY TO START OVER

I started out my day yesterday by accidentally knocking over the glass French Press full of hot coffee.  I was barefoot.  The carafe cut me and the coffee burnt me.Yesterday was not a good day.
My foot hurt and reminded me constantly how I was:  careless, clumsy, inattentive, silly…. All kinds of very negative thoughts filled my head. To top it off I had to shell out the money for a new pot or go without coffee!
As it turns out, the kitchen store sells a variety of replacement glass carafes… I couldn’t find the model I needed, but was reassured by the fact that obviously other people had bad days that started out with pots of coffee, cuts and burns.
“The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word “crisis.” One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity.” – Richard Nixon
Literally, I spent the entire day not considering that other people might have faced a similar fate and, most likely, felt much the same as I did.  Did this realization make my pain or embarrassment go away?  No.
But, knowing that other people had faced a similar fate and also had to find a way to deal with it brought me some comfort.  More, it made me feel a little more connected and grounded.

Job search tip of the day: Stretch every hour

Sitting at the computer applying for jobs can put a strain on your body and mind.  Do yourself and your job search some good by taking a break every hour or so. Set a reminder in your calendar or use a kitchen timer if you need to.

Here are a few simple things you can do:

Eyes - focus on something far away.
Hands and wrists - interlace your fingers and turn inside out, pushing away from yourself. Let your arms hang down and shake your hands loosely.
Neck - tilt your head forward, back and to each side several times.
Back - stretch your hands above your head and clasp them, then lean to each side several times. Put your hands on your hips and bend forward and backward several times.
Legs - lift each knee to your chest and hold several seconds; do this a few times. Lunge forward several times on each leg.
Mind - think about a pleasant memory, vacation or a loved one.  Go outside and walk around the block!

Now you should be ready for a more productive hour of job search!

Excuses for Calling in Sick

By , About.com Guide   March 12, 2012
Follow me on:

Do you find it easier to go to work when it's cold out? I do. I don't have a problem being indoors for eight hours at a time when the weather isn't good, but when it gets warmer, I dream of being outdoors. I don't have the statistics to back this up, but I bet more people falsely call in sick when the weather is good than when it's bad. Who among us isn't tempted to "play" outside in the warmth and sunshine?

10 Ways to Find More Hours in Your Day

We all wish we had just a bit more time.

Just think what you could do with an extra hour or two each day: you could finally stick to an exercise routine, or spring-clean the house, or write your novel, or learn the guitar, or get a new qualification.

I can’t magically make all your days 25 hours long. But I can help you find more hours in your day for the things that really matter.
  1. Get Out of Bed Earlier
If you normally get up at 7.30am, try getting up at 7am. That half-hour might not sound like much -- but it could be time that you use to meditateto exerciseto read that book you’ve been meaning to finish, or simply to get your day off to a calm and organized start.
